Thirsk Picnic in the Park

THIRSK ACTION GROUP PICNIC IN THE PARK

End of a Picnic Era

After 14 fabulous years, in March due to the current situation we had to announce the cancellation of Thirsk Picnic in the Park. After much deliberation we have decided that there is just too much uncertainty to plan any large scale music events at this time. Although this means the end of the Thirsk Picnic era, this is in no way means the end of Thirsk Action Group! We remain committed to raising funds for local charities and Action Medical Research. Already we have some exciting plans for some different future events – watch this space!

We would like to thank the Bell family at Thirsk Hall, our sponsors, volunteers and not least, you the public for the huge support that we have received over the years and the memorable evenings we have had in aid of some very worthwhile causes.

History

Thirsk Hall is set in 10 acres of parkland overlooking Thirsk Race Course which is a perfect setting for this evening charity concert. The house was built by the Bell family in 1770, the Bell family still live in this wonderful house. Thirsk Action Group wish to thank Mr John Bell for letting us stage this event in their fantastic grounds & parkland.

The event raises funds for Action Medical Research and other local charities.

Thirsk Picnic in the Park has seen some fantastic tribute acts and original artists over the years including Elvis, Phil Collins, The Eagles, Abba and the Beatles. In 2011 the concert was a Soul Spectacular, featuring original artists Jimmy James & The Vagabonds and Gwen Dickey of Rose Royce, held over a full afternoon and evening. With support acts from local performers Elaine Palmer, Pop Trash, The Funktion & Big in the North East.

In 2012, the event returned to an evening format, with one of the UK’s top tribute bands The Counterfeit Bee Gees, along with support act Dominic Halpin & the Honey Bs, a swinging’ show-band. In 2013 we had Flash: A Tribute to Queen, and had record ticket sales. This was completed with local up and coming band My Forever who performed an amazing set. Local radio presenter Judy McCourt presented the evening and the Thirsk Royal British Legion Band played during the early part of the evening.

In 2014 another record audience enjoyed Paul Metcalfe’s Rod Stewart Tribute Show with support act Andy Barker Sings, and Sugartown acoustic duo - it was a fantastic night topped off by a spectacular fireworks show.

Our 10th anniversary show in 2015 was even bigger and better, with an improved larger stage, lighting and sound and an amazing night with local band Citizen Smith and headliners Jake & Elwood Blues Brothers' Show and the main act, JK as Robbie Williams. There was much excitement at Paddington’s parade around the arena, our lucky mascot!

In 2016 The Ultimate Elton and Ultimate Bowie performed to a great crowd, and everyone was in the party mood, despite some rain showers!

In 2017 we enjoyed music by Casual Sax, a fantastic performance by Lareena Mitchell as Adele and Ben's Michael Jackson tribute had everyone dancing. A sensational and sunny evening!

Our 2018 event featured George Michael 'Faith - the legacy tribute' with Tina Turner, a tribute by Niqi Brown and the smooth sounds of Acoustic Weller by Mark Simpson.

Our 14th event in 2019 featured the bouncing nutty boys Beyond Madness, a tribute to ABBA and the incredible Madonna show by Tash Leaper.
