1. Buying Tickets

How do I book tickets for Picnic in the Park?

Online tickets sales for 2018 will be opening around 1st March 2018 and available in person from local outlets around the same time:

Calverts Rug Shop (Thirsk)

We do not advise purchasing from any other source or online auction sites as sale on these sites is in breach of our terms and conditions. Please buy your tickets from the website or our official outlets.

Please note that email confirmations are not tickets and will not be accepted as tickets to access the event.

How do I book a gazebo pitch?

There is a form to download on the ticket page. Send in your application to the address on the form.

What is the child policy?

Children aged 11 and under can attend free of charge and do not require any form of ticket but they must be accompanied by a ticket holding parent/guardian (18 or over) and supervised at a maximum ratio of 1 adult to 8 children. Entry may be refused without valid proof of age (photocopy of passport or birth certificate is accepted).

Do you charge a booking fee?

Online purchases pay £1 per ticket to cover postage and packing. Purchases from retail outlets in Northallerton and Thirsk do not charge a booking fee. We try to keep costs as low as possible as it is a charity fundraising event.

When will I receive my tickets?

Online sales will be processed and tickets mailed out within three weeks of purchase. Please check your confirmation email for details of when tickets will be dispatched to you. The last day for online ticket orders is Wednesday 5th July.

Customers booking through retail outlets will get their tickets at time of purchase.

What if I lose my ticket?

It is your responsibility to keep your ticket safe. Online sales will be mailed within three weeks of purchase. No duplicate tickets will be issued under any circumstances.

Can I buy a ticket on the day?

If the event has not sold out prior to 8th July, tickets will be made available for cash (only) purchase on the day. The event has been growing in popularity over the years so you are advised to purchase in advance.

2. Travel Arrangements

Can I park on site and is there car parking charge?

There is free parking on site (the access is off Newsham road, behind Lidl supermarket). Please show your ticket to gain entry. All cars must off site by 12 noon on Sunday 8th July. There is limited parking and having an event ticket does not guarantee a parking space so you are advised to park up early. Volunteers will guide you to your parking space so please park in designated areas only. There is 24 hour security on site.

Travelling by public transport

Thirsk railway station is approx. 15 minutes walk from the site and buses stop in the Market Place which is less than 5 minutes walk.

3. About the Venue

Where is the venue?

See a link to our map here. The entrance is on Newsham Road. Gates open at 5pm and the event finishes at 11pm.

Is seating provided and do you reserve seats?

Seating is not provided or reserved. You are welcome to bring folding picnic chairs or rugs. If a standing area has been designated directly in front of the stage, seating brought into the venue will not be allowed in this area.

Will the event go ahead if it’s raining?

Events will go ahead regardless of weather, except in circumstances where the conditions at the venue are deemed unsafe or unfeasible to proceed with the event. We advise that you wear suitable clothing and footwear for an outdoor event. Dress for the outdoors and bring a raincoat and suitable waterproof footwear.

How will I find out if the event does have to be cancelled?

The event would only be cancelled in extreme circumstances.  Otherwise every effort is made to proceed with the event.

Is food and drink available?

Generally, hot food, a drinks bar, a Pimms Bar, ice creams, a coffee stand and cake stall are available on site although this may change without prior notice.

Please note bar and food outlets may not accept card payments and there are no cashpoints in the venue.

Can I bring my own food or picnic?

You are welcome to bring your own picnic and drinks including alcohol. Please be mindful the event is in the grounds of a local manor house so your cooperation keeping the site tidy, is appreciated. Please use the bin bags provided and recycling points..

Is the event suitable for me and my party?

Crowd conditions can vary dependant on artists. It is the purchaser's responsibility to ensure the content and show is appropriate for them and their party.

Are there any toilets?

Yes, facilities are provided on site.

Video screens

We do not use screens at the event. We are committed to keeping ticket prices as low as possible and hire of the screen, associated cameras and staff significantly increase the cost of putting on the event which would be reflected in the ticket price.

4. What can I bring?

Which items cannot be brought into the arena?

Certain items are not allowed in the arena for both the audience and the artist’s safety and comfort. It is essential that you check the Terms and Conditions for the complete list of prohibited items.

Prohibited items include BBQs and family pets - dogs are not allowed on site. No fires are allowed on site. Please don't briing your own portable music systems to the site - enjoy the music we provide.

What about cameras?

Professional photography is prohibited. Tripods and audio visual or video equipment are not permitted in the arena. We appreciate your co-operation.

What should I bring?

Dress for the outdoors. Bring something warm for later in the evening and bring a waterproof - just in case!. Bring cash if you would like to buy food and drinks - vendors aren’t able to accept credit or debit cards. Bring a fold up chair or rug if you would like to have a seat. Insect repellent may be useful.

5. Information for Disabled Concert-goers

Do you have facilities for disabled concert-goers?

The site can be accessed by wheelchair users but please be mindful the event area is grass.

6. Running Times and artists

What time can I arrive?

The event site opens at 5pm. Ticket Holders can enter at 5pm on the event day. Gazebo ticket holders can set up earlier between 9am - 1pm but must produce a Gazebo ticket to gain entry.

What time will the event end?

Concerts normally finish around 11pm after the fireworks finale. Gazebos and vehicles must be off site by 12 noon on Sunday.

What are the artist running times?

These will be advertised on the website and Facebook closer to the event.

What if an artist cannot perform?

We reserve the right to change the line up of the event without prior notice and if an artist is unable to perform we will endeavour to find a suitable replacement i.e. another tribute act covering the same artist. We recommend you keep in touch with Picnic in the Park via the website and Facebook.

7. Accommodation

Can I camp at the venue?

There is no camping on site. However, there is a camping and caravanning site on Thirsk Racecourse which is adjacent to the event site.

Where can I stay?

Contact the Thirsk Tourist Information Centre for full details of local accommodation.
